Minnesota DoKADs

Minnesota DoKADs is a growing community for descendants of Korean adoptees in the Twin Cities and throughout Minnesota. Early gatherings will focus on meeting one another, building relationships, and learning what kinds of programs the community wants next.

You do not need experience, a venue, or a plan. The first meetups are mostly about picking a coffee shop and showing up.

Section 03. Where the day-to-day happens

A note on outside platforms. Facebook and Instagram groups are run on someone else’s infrastructure, under their privacy terms and their data collection — not ours. Anything you post there is subject to their rules. This website stays the permanent, searchable home for information; the social groups are just where conversation happens day to day.

Section 04. Community updates

  1. Sep 27, 2026The first DoKAD meetup happened at The Lobby Coffee & Leisure in Edina, hosted by AK Connection. Next one not scheduled yet — tell us what would suit you.
  2. Aug 1, 2026First coffee meetup penciled in for late September. Date and venue still being settled.
  3. Jul 15, 2026Early survey responses came back. Social meetups, guided discussions, and educational events led the requests.

Section 05. On other organisations

Minnesota has one of the largest Korean adoptee populations anywhere, and adoptee-led organisations here have been doing this work far longer than we have. One of them is why this site exists: DOKADS is powered by AK Connection, the Minnesota community organisation for adult Korean adoptees.

That support looks exactly like our community-led principle: adoptees backing the next generation’s space without directing it. DoKAD programming is still shaped and led by DoKADs, and being here does not require any prior connection to AK Connection or any other organisation.

Community principle
DoKAD programming should be shaped and led by DoKADs.

Korean adoptees, parents, organizations, researchers, and allies may provide support, resources, mentorship, funding, or partnership — but descendants should have meaningful leadership in decisions about DoKAD programming.
